Brow Lift

Aging and gravity will cause the forehead to wrinkle, frown lines, and sagging eyebrows. These typical signs give the appearance of a sad, tired aging look. A brow lift will restore a fresher appearance by minimizing lines across the forehead and bridge of the nose and elevate the brow. A brow lift will rejuvenate facial appearance and reveal a more youthful face. Typically brow lifts are performed in conjunction with other procedures to rejuvenate the entire face including eyelid surgery and facelift.

Choosing a Brow Lift

For individuals looking to minimize creases on their forehead and on the bridge of the nose, improve their frown lines (the creases that develop between the eyebrows) and elevate a sagging brow to reveal a more youthful appearance, a brow lift is procedure of choice. Dr Vu will discuss your concerns and examine and measure your face during the consultation. He will discuss options, risks, and the most effective procedure for you depending upon the severity of deformity. There are non-surgical options such as botox and fillers; however they won’t be as effective. Dr Vu will guide you to what is the most appropriate procedure depending on your expection. If you are interested in rejuvenating your face with a minimally invasive procedure, you have several other options. Dr. Vu also performs Botox injections, dermabrasion, and dermal fillers, which can reduce lines and other imperfections of the face resulting in a fresher, younger appearance.

The Procedure

Browlift is generally done under IV sedation or general anesthesia in our AAAASF certified surgical suite. Typically it takes 1.5 -2 hours. There are two main types of browlift and variations including limited open incisions or direct browlift

  • Endoscopic brow lift
performed with an endoscope through small incisions in the scalp. Special instruments are then placed through the incisions. With these instruments, the scalp is released and elevated and specific frowning muscles are removed. The eyebrow position is then lifted and secure to the skull. In general this procedure is less invasive with less scarring and shorter recovery period. However, it does not adequately correct severe deformity and not as predictable as the coronal lift below.
  • Coronal brow lift
required an incision across the top of the forehead or frontal hairline. The forehead skin flap is elevated and the specific frowing muscles are removed. The forehead muscles are weaken to soften forehead creases. The excess scalp tissue is pulled back and excise lifting the eyebrows. The incision lines from a brow lift are well concealed within the hair or natural contours of the face.

Recovery

A brow lift is typically done on an outpatient basis. Bandages, cold compress, and a head dressing will be used. During the first few days, discomfort is expected but can be minimized with medications. Dr Vu will give you detailed instructions during recovery period. The incisions will heal in 5-10 days depending on the type of brow lift. Expect some swelling and bruising for first several days especially around the eyes. After a few weeks you should see a more rejuvenated upper face; however, it might take several weeks for final results.
